The first doorway as we come from the Civil Hospital side...
The lighter coloured portions are what have been added later on to support what left of the old wall and doorway...
A close up of the doorway... And you guessed right ! That's Shamim Bhai, waiting patiently for me to finish my lingering...
Some of the cast iron fixtures/embellishments that remain...
Looking onto what's left of a portion of the fort wall...
The same entrance from the other side...
Most of the interesting carvings on the remaining portions of the wall/doorway have worn out...
And then we have the second entrance...
This entrance is more ornate than the first and most parts of the massive carved wooden door are intact, but fast wearing out...
Another look through entrance number two...
And there's the handsome carved wooden door...!
Intricate designs delicately carved on a portion of the wooden door...
Sadly very few portions of the cast iron work remain intact...
The interesting wooden ceiling of the huge and capacious doorway...
And our local vandals have managed to even get up there...!! :(
he beautiful woodwork at the corners...
Another look at the awesome carving on the door...
Doorway two, as seen from the other side...
Some of the beautiful carving that still remains for us to view and appreciate...
Some more of the beautiful carving that still remains for us to view and appreciate...
Note the urdu inscriptions carved on the center stone... Got to find out it's meaning/importance...
The small chamber at the side of the main entrance...
What's interesting is, even this little chamber has some interesting carvings on the front...
The carvings on the front of the small chamber to the side of the entrance...

A last lingering look at the fort that was
and the two handsome doorways that are... :)
And we always thought, a few bits of crumbling walls and two run down wooden doorways is all there was that was left of Dharwad's fort of yore...
Well, we weren't very wrong... For, that's all that meets the eye at one glance, while walking/riding/driving through the two doorways... But, if you took a few moments off, and chanced to stop by and let your gaze travel all over the same crumbling bits of walls and run down doorways, there's an awesome surprise in store for you...!
I did it this morning, and found the lingering well worth it... And returned with the resolve to not take the glorious heritage, crumbling or otherwise of namma Dharwad every for granted...!!
